TN farmers urge CM to take steps to protect Noyyal river

Coimbatore: Urging the Tamilnadu government to protect the Noyyal river, Tamil Nadu Farmers Association members yesterday submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister K Palaniswami.

The association sought the CM to take steps regarding the encroachments and effluent discharge in to the 147-km-long river, which is the lifeline of the region.

The association president S Palanisamy stated that the banks of the river was encroached upon in Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode. Also industrial effluents were discharged into it. This led to pollution and created a hazardous situation. He further stated that the Chief Minister had reportedly assured to look into the matter.

Furthermore, speaking about the rise in milk price, the association president said it would give solace to dairy farmers even though the rise in price was not satisfactory.
