Chennai: The Madras High Court has extended Rajiv Gandhi assassination case convict S Nalini’s parole by three weeks.

According to the earlier order, the parole was to end 25 August.

Early this week, Nalini’s counsel had filed a plea with the HC, seeking extension and the order follows it.

Being one of the seven life convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, Nalini was granted 30 days parole and released from Vellore prison 25 July while she sought six months parole.

P Pugalenthi, Nalini’s counsel, had submitted a petition to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of prisons of Vellore, K Jeyabharathy, and State Home Secretary in August seeking extension and is learnt that the DIG had rejected the request and has taken the matter to court this week. The request was sent to the Prisons Department for its reply.

Now the court has extended Nalini’s parole by three weeks.
