Chennai: Rajendhra Prasadh Road, famously known as the RP Road has become a major concern of the residents of Chrompet as the encroachments in the poorly-maintained road contributes to a lot of road mishaps everyday.
The RP Road, that connects Hasthinapuram bus stand and Chrompet, is not being maintained properly and encroachments on the road has left no path for pedestrians to walk. Also accidents take place in the road. Recently, three were dead in different mishaps that took place in this road and an elderly person lost his legs.
V Santhanam, a resident of New Colony said, “For a number of years, the road has been in a pathetic condition. Growing encroachments are left unchecked. This road is a part of 22 bus routes. There is one school, more than a dozen of banks, 6 marriage halls and various other important institutions.”
He added, “The road has shrunk due to the encroachments throughout the stretch. Since there is no footpath, people are forced to walk on the roads. Adding to these problems, the roads is also in a poor condition. This leads to a lot off accidents here.”
Ranganathan, a resident of BBR Nagar says, “Everyday accidents occur in this road, we have raised several complaints and authorities have not taken any action to redress this issue.” Venkatesan, another resident opined that since there is no footpath to pedestrians, people walk on the road throwing safety to the winds.
A few that they want the authorities concerned to clear the encroachments and widen the busy road so that many future mishaps can be prevented.
