Chennai: Construction works for an overhead water tank in Zamin Royapettah, was started six years ago and now it is nearing completion.
Residents of the locality are more than happy with this project, as this might provide them with water during acute shortage.
According to sources, if this project is completed successfully, water can be supplied for families that reside within a three kilometer radius.
Saravanan, a resident of Vembuli Amman Kovil bus stop said, “We are happy that the construction is going to done and we will be more happy, if we get water supply at the earliest, because we all know about the water scarcity in our area.”
Padmanaban, another resident of the same locality said, “The construction works for this tank, whose capacity is 24 lakhs liters, was started in the year 2013 and the main source of the tank is Sembarambakkam Eri.”
“Almost 90 per cent of the works are done. After the completion, pipelines connecting the tank and households in the locality, will be laid. We all are waiting for the supply to begin as the ground water has already gone dry and this tank will become a major source of water for more than hundreds of families that reside here,” said another resident.
