The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a yellow alert for Tamil Nadu, predicting heavy rain and gusty winds over the next 48 hours. This alert comes as the state prepares for potentially severe weather conditions.
According to the meteorological department, squally weather with wind speeds ranging from 35 kmph to 45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, is expected over the Gulf of Mannar and along the south Tamil Nadu coast. These conditions are likely to persist, raising concerns about the safety of those in affected areas.
Chennai and its suburbs are forecasted to receive light to moderate rain, with heavy spells at times over the next two days. The current weather patterns, marked by moderate westerlies and southwesterlies in the lower tropospheric levels, are contributing to increased rainfall activity, particularly over the Western Ghats and coastal districts of Tamil Nadu.
Weather officials have also indicated that thunderstorm activity is likely across the state during the evening and night times, adding to the potential for disruptive weather.
In light of these predictions, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea until July 8 (Monday). Trawlers currently in deep sea are urged to return to shore as soon as possible to avoid the hazardous conditions.
The yellow alert and associated warnings aim to ensure public safety and minimize the impact of the adverse weather conditions expected in the coming days. Residents are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions to stay safe.
