The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leadership is set to conduct a comprehensive review of the party’s performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections from July 10 to 19 at the party headquarters. This critical evaluation comes in the aftermath of a challenging electoral outcome for the party across Tamil Nadu.In a statement issued, former Chief Minister Palaniswami has called upon candidates, senior party leaders, election in-charges, and functionaries who played pivotal roles in the election campaigns to attend the meeting without fail. The review meetings will commence with constituencies such as Kancheepuram and Sriperumbudur on July 10, with a total of 26 constituencies slated for thorough examination.
Each constituency’s performance will be meticulously scrutinized, focusing on voting percentages, patterns, and factors influencing the party’s electoral outcomes. Party insiders indicate that Palaniswami has expressed dissatisfaction with some district secretaries for perceived shortcomings in efforts to enhance the party’s performance.
Amidst calls for party unification and to reaffirm his leadership, Palaniswami’s decision to conduct these review meetings is seen as a strategic move. The AIADMK led an alliance including the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), and Puthiya Tamilagam (PT) in the elections. The AIADMK fielded candidates in 32 constituencies, while SDPI and PT leaders contested under the AIADMK symbol in Dindigul and Tenkasi.
Despite facing challenges such as the departure of former allies like PMK and others from the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, Palaniswami undertook an extensive campaign covering all 39 constituencies in the state. However, the results were disappointing, with the party losing all seats and forfeiting deposits in constituencies like Chennai South and nine others, which has reportedly demoralized party cadres and supporters.
The upcoming review meetings are expected to delve into these issues comprehensively, aiming to analyze shortcomings, strategize future actions, and bolster the AIADMK’s electoral prospects in Tamil Nadu.
