The operation of buses to southern districts from Chennai has been relocated to the newly inaugurated Koyambedu-Chennai Bus Terminus (KCBT) in Kilambakkam. With this transition, the responsibility for maintaining this expansive facility will fall into the hands of BVG India Private Limited from this April, as announced by Anshul Mishra, member-secretary of Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA).
BVG India Private Limited secured the maintenance contract after successfully completing the tender process. Under the terms of the agreement, the firm will pay a concession fee of Rs. 2.40 cr annually to CMDA. Additionally, this concession fee will see a yearly increment of 15 percent.
Explaining the rationale behind awarding the maintenance contract to a single bidder, Anshul Mishra shed light on the proceedings, stating that while four bidders initially participated in the pre-bid meeting, certain stringent requirements deterred all but one.
