Chennai:
Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran has said that the recent Murugan Devotees Conference in Madurai was not political and did not insult anyone.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai, he said the event was purely spiritual. “No religion was disrespected. No one was insulted. No political speech was made,” he said.
His statement comes after several parties, including the DMK and AIADMK, criticised the event. Some videos from the conference were said to contain offensive remarks about Dravidian leaders like Periyar and Annadurai.
Nainar denied these claims and said such criticism was unnecessary. He also spoke about other issues, including train fare refunds, and said the BJP will always support the people of Tamil Nadu.
When asked about the central government giving more funds to Sanskrit than Tamil, he said earlier UPA governments did the same. He questioned why the DMK was raising the issue now.
