Chennai: As the city entered the fourth phase of Covid-19 lockdown, the State police continued to take violators of Section 144 into task. Until this morning, they have arrested 4,88,250 persons for violating rules of social distancing.

According to a press release from the DGP’s office, 4,60,513 violations have been recorded. FIRs are being registered against those who violate the rule.

The police seized as many as 4,00,866 vehicles from those who stepped out of their houses for non-essential purposes. However, the vehicles are being returned to their owners in a phased manner.

A total amount of Rs 6,05,39,454 has been collected from violators as fine.
