No Athi Varadar darshan from 5 pm to 8 pm on 34th day today (video)

Chennai: In the land of silk and zari – Kanchipuram – it is but natural that Lord Athi Varadar is decorated with different colour silk robes every day. Today’s colour was pale green silk with a shocking pink border that added charm to the already beautiful deity.

Also, today’s speciality were the two, deep pink silk thread garlands – that befit the temple town – that were long enough to touch the feet of the deity.

Today is the 34th day of darshan of Lord Athi Varadar after the idol was taken out of the Sri Varadaraja Perumal Temple tank and kept in the Vasantha Mandapam of the temple.

It is also the third day that the Lord is giving darshan in ninra thirukolam after a month in sayana thirukolam. 

This being a Saturday that is considered auspicious to worship Lord Vishnu, there are milling crowds in the temple.

But the temple doors will be shut at 2 pm today and those in the queue before that will be allowed to offer worship to Lord Athi Varadar.

Today is Adi Pooram and the temple will be celebrating saint Andal’s thirukalyanam from 5 pm to 8 pm, say temple sources.

Public darshan will be allowed after 8 pm for an extended period of time, add the sources.
