Karaikudi, Jan 17: Senior BJP leader H. Raja has expressed strong confidence that there will be a change of government in Tamil Nadu following the 2026 Assembly elections, asserting that his party and alliance will defeat the ruling DMK and its allies. Raja made these remarks during a public interview here, outlining his views on political dynamics in the state.Addressing the gathering, Raja criticised the DMK and Congress for what he described as actions against Tamil culture and tradition, including their alleged stances on Jallikattu and other cultural issues. He said that the BJP-led alliance would prevail in the elections and that Tamil Nadu would witness a significant political shift. As part of his symbolic vision, he also mentioned that a lamp will be lit atop the hill at Thiruparankundram once his political objectives are achieved — a reference to the longstanding dispute over lamp lighting at the sacred hill temple.
Raja further stated that the decision on seat sharing between the AIADMK and BJP will be finalised through discussions between the two parties’ leadership. He criticised the existing DMK leadership and said that the BJP-AIADMK alliance should stand united to defeat the DMK in the coming polls.
On the Thiruparankundram lamp issue, which has drawn legal and political debate following a recent Madras High Court order permitting lighting of the lamp on the hilltop, Raja called for adherence to tradition and court directives — a sentiment echoed by supporters and part of broader cultural discourse in the state.
