Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S. Ramadoss has written to the Election Commission of India (ECI) claiming that the recent alliance between the PMK faction led by his son, Anbumani Ramadoss, and the AIADMK is illegal and should be annulled. In his letter, Ramadoss argues that Anbumani does not have the authority to negotiate or finalise election alliances on behalf of the PMK, because his term as party president had expired and was fraudulently extended without proper authority. According to Ramadoss, this makes the alliance talks with AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami and the partnership itself unauthorised and invalid.
Ramadoss further stated that Anbumani’s continuation as PMK leader was illegitimate, claiming he had been removed from the party and therefore has no right to use the PMK name, flag, or ‘mango’ symbol in any alliance or election context. He urged the Election Commission to take civil and criminal action against him. A copy of his petition was reportedly sent to senior state officials including the police chief.
The dispute reflects a deeper leadership conflict within the PMK just months before the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, adding strain to opposition unity efforts against the ruling DMK.
