Floral tributes and emotional remembrance marked the second death anniversary of DMDK Founder, actor-politician and Padma Bhushan awardee ‘Captain’ Vijayakanth today, as political leaders and party cadres gathered in large numbers to honour the charismatic leader who left a lasting imprint on Tamil Nadu’s political and cultural landscape.His wife and DMDK General Secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth, along with Treasurer L.K. Sudheesh, led a silent procession to his memorial at the party headquarters, where cadres paid homage with wreaths and flowers. Senior leaders recalled his contribution to cinema, social service and public life.
Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, BJP leaders including Tamilisai Soundararajan, Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan, and leaders of several parties paid tributes in person and on social media.
Speaking to reporters, EPS described Vijayakanth as a leader “with a heart as expansive as the sky”, highlighting his compassion, courage and unwavering commitment to people’s welfare.
Leaders noted that his humanitarian initiatives, principled politics and mass connect continue to inspire thousands of followers even today.
The DMDK organised Guru Puja events across districts, reaffirming its resolve to carry forward his legacy.
