A special police team on Thursday shot and injured a murder suspect near Ennore after he allegedly hurled a petrol bomb at an officer attempting to arrest him.The suspect, Vicky from Puducherry, was being pursued in connection with the killing of 23-year-old Sathya, a known history-sheeter who was hacked to death late Wednesday on the Ennore Expressway.
According to police sources, a team led by Thiruvottiyur Sub-Inspector Naveen traced Vicky to his hideout following a tip-off. When the officers closed in, Vicky reportedly threw a petrol bomb and tried to escape, prompting SI Naveen to open fire in self-defence.
Vicky sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was rushed to Government Stanley Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
Sathya, the victim of Wednesday’s murder, was attacked by a gang that arrived on two motorbikes. As he attempted to run, the gang chased him down near Tiruchinankuppam and assaulted him with knives, inflicting multiple injuries on his head, back, and face. He died at the spot before help could arrive, officials said.
