Islamabad, June 3: Pakistan may have a tough time growing summer crops this year. There is a big water shortage in the Indus River system. This includes the Indus, Jhelum, and Chenab rivers.Pakistan said two main dams — Tarbela on the Indus and Mangla on the Jhelum — have very low water. Also, water flow in the Chenab River suddenly dropped. Officials say this may be due to less water being released by India after the Pahalgam terror attack.
Government data shows water in the Indus system is down by 10.3% compared to the same time last year. The situation may get worse. The Southwest monsoon is still about four weeks away.
