Four fishermen from Kodiyakarai in Nagapattinam district were injured in a mid-sea attack on Wednesday night.

They were fishing 13 nautical miles southeast of Kodiyakarai when a three-member gang attacked them.

The attackers came in a boat. They hit the fishermen and took away their GPS devices, walkie-talkies, cell phones, fishing gear, and fish catch.

The injured men managed to return to shore. It is not yet known who the attackers were. Initial reports suggest they could be Sri Lankan fishermen or sea pirates.
