Chennai is all set to witness its first-ever Formula 4 car race, a highly anticipated event among motorsports enthusiasts and fans. The two-day racing event began today and will conclude tomorrow, taking place on a specially designed 3.5 km circuit around the Island Grounds in the heart of the city.The race, held under the lights as a night event, features a challenging track with 19 turns and high-speed straightaways. This thrilling competition is organized by the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority in collaboration with a private entity, Racing Promoters, and is expected to draw a crowd of around 9,000 spectators.
Atulya Misra, Additional Chief Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority, spoke about the significance of the event in a press conference yesterday. “This race is being organized with great effort and marks a proud moment for both the country and Chennai. It presents an opportunity for Chennai to feature on the global motorsports map,” Misra said.
The high-speed event promises an exhilarating experience for the spectators, with cars racing at speeds of up to 200 km/h. The race track has been carefully designed to ensure not only excitement but also safety for both the participants and the viewers. The track offers stunning views of Chennai’s historic landmarks, including Fort St. George and Marina Beach, adding to the spectacle of the event.
