The Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry has issued prohibitory orders against 11 advocates, preventing them from practicing law in any court or tribunal. The decision was made in response to the involvement of these advocates in criminal activities, including a high-profile murder case and violent conduct within court premises.
Among those barred from legal practice are K Hariharan, K Haridharan, B Shiva, and N Aswathaman, who have been booked in connection with the murder of K Armstrong, a leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Tamil Nadu. The Bar Council’s resolution stipulates that the prohibition will remain in effect until the criminal cases against these individuals are resolved.
In addition to the murder-related suspensions, the Bar Council has also banned advocates C Senthi Nathan, C Sakthivel, G Vijaya Kumar, T Vimal, and V Dinesh Kumar for their involvement in a violent altercation at the Egmore court premises. The accused allegedly assaulted other lawyers using helmets, pipes, and chairs during a dispute over handling a legal case.
The Bar Council’s decisive action highlights its commitment to upholding the integrity of the legal profession by taking stringent measures against advocates involved in criminal activities. This move serves as a stern reminder of the ethical responsibilities that legal practitioners must adhere to while representing their clients and engaging in legal proceedings.
