Security measures at Chennai International Airport have been significantly heightened starting from Friday, ahead of the upcoming Independence Day on August 15. The enhanced security protocol will be in place until August 20.All passengers are now required to undergo a rigorous seven-tier security check before boarding their flights. This increase in security measures follows repeated hoax bomb threats that had already put the airport under a five-tier security system. With the new measures in place, passengers are advised to arrive at the airport well in advance—domestic passengers should report at least one and a half hours before departure, while international passengers are advised to arrive three and a half hours prior to their flight.
Additional police forces have been deployed around the airport premises, conducting round-the-clock patrols to ensure safety. Every vehicle entering the airport is being thoroughly checked with metal detectors as part of the enhanced security protocol.
Inside the airport, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is maintaining strict vigilance, monitoring all areas closely. To further bolster security, additional CCTV cameras have been installed at sensitive locations both inside and around the airport premises.
These heightened measures are part of the efforts to ensure a safe and secure environment for passengers and staff during the Independence Day period.
