Railway officials have announced that the electric train service between Chennai Beach and Chindathiripet, which was suspended in August last year, will resume within a month. The service was halted to facilitate the construction of a 4th railway line between Chennai Beach and Egmore, a project with an estimated cost of ₹279 crore. The suspension of the train service has caused considerable inconvenience to daily commuters who rely on this route. However, the project is now in its final stages, with construction reportedly progressing rapidly. A key milestone in the project was the acquisition of 110 meters of land from the Indian Navy, which was necessary to complete the track work.
Southern Railway has confirmed that once the construction is finalized, the train services between Chennai Beach and Chindathiripet will be reinstated, offering much-needed relief to the passengers who have been affected by the year-long disruption.
