The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has reported a significant surge in daily ridership, with a total of 95.35 lakh passengers using the service in July. This figure marks an increase of 11.01 lakh passengers compared to June and sets a new record for the highest monthly ridership since the inception of Chennai Metro services.The highest single-day ridership for the month was recorded on July 12, with 3.50 lakh passengers utilizing the metro. The earlier months of the year showed consistent growth in ridership, with 84.63 lakh passengers in January, 86.15 lakh in February, 86.82 lakh in March, 80.87 lakh in April, 84.21 lakh in May, and 84.33 lakh in June.
In terms of ticketing options used by passengers in July, 19.96 lakh travelers opted for the Singara Chennai card, 35.31 lakh used travel cards, 1.83 lakh utilized online QR codes, 2.77 lakh used static QR codes, and 22.09 lakh purchased paper QR tickets.
This increase in ridership reflects the growing popularity and reliability of the Chennai Metro as a preferred mode of transportation for the city’s residents. The diverse ticketing options also indicate the flexibility and convenience offered to commuters.
