Chennai Metro Rail has announced updates to its parking tariffs at various stations, aiming to prioritize space for metro commuters while addressing the needs of non-commuters. These changes come as part of efforts to optimize parking facilities and better serve the growing number of passengers using the metro system.
One of the key changes involves the extension of monthly pass provision exclusively to metro commuters who have made a minimum of 15 rides in the last 30 days. This provision will apply to parking lots at six stations, namely Wimco Nagar Depot Metro, Sri Thiyagaraya College Metro, Nehru Park Metro, Koyambedu Metro, Ashok Nagar Metro, and Alandur Metro. However, due to limited parking space, the monthly pass provision will be suspended at four stations: New Washermenpet Metro, Nandanam Metro, Egmore Metro, and Shenoy Nagar Metro.
In addition, to manage the increasing demand from non-commuters, the hourly parking tariff for them has been raised at 18 stations. These stations include Thiruvotriyur Metro, Thiruvotiyur Theradi Metro, Kaladipet Metro, High Court Metro, Washermenpet Metro, Government Estate Metro, LIC Metro, Guindy Metro, Nanganallur Road Metro, Meenambakkam Metro, Thirumangalam Metro, Airport Metro, Mannadi Metro, New Washermenpet Metro, Nandanam Metro, Egmore Metro, Ashok Nagar Metro, and Alandur Metro.
These adjustments to parking tariffs aim to strike a balance between accommodating the needs of metro commuters and managing parking demand from non-commuters. By incentivizing regular metro usage through the extension of monthly pass provision and adjusting tariffs for non-commuters, Chennai Metro Rail seeks to optimize parking facilities and enhance the overall commuting experience for passengers.
