Police books Premalatha Vijayakanth for violating Model Code of Conduct

The Chennai City Police have taken action against Premalatha Vijayakanth, the general secretary of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), for allegedly violating the model code of conduct. The incident in question occurred on Monday when an event for women was conducted at the party headquarters in Koyambedu, which attracted over 300 attendees.
The case was registered by the CMBT Police based on a complaint from an official of the static surveillance team. Premalatha Vijayakanth has been booked under various sections including unauthorized use of sound amplifiers, penalty for disfigurement by objectionable advertisements, and punishment for bribery.
According to election commission officials, the event organized by Premalatha Vijayakanth came to their attention, prompting a visit by a team to investigate. Upon arrival, it was discovered that approximately 300 women had gathered at the venue, where tokens were distributed for free training sessions in embroidery as part of the women’s day celebrations.
The booking of Premalatha Vijayakanth underscores the importance of adhering to the model code of conduct, especially during the sensitive period leading up to elections.
