The Supreme Court adjourned hearings on an appeal filed by the Tamil Nadu government against orders by single-judge benches of the Madras HC allowing the RSS to conduct its marches in the state to 6 November. It asked the state as to why could it not appeal against the decision before a Division Bench of the High Court.

Justice G Jayachandran of the Madras HC had earlier summoned the Home Secretary and DGP, after the RSS filed a contempt plea saying that the police had not granted them permission in spite of court orders.
