Chennai: Petrol and diesel prices were today hiked by 80 paise a litre each, taking the total increase in rates in the last nine days to Rs 5.60 per litre.
In Chennai, the prices of petrol and diesel are at Rs 106.69 per litre and Rs 96.76 per litre respectively.
In the national capital Delhi, petrol and diesel are currently being sold at Rs 101.01 per litre and Rs 92.27 per litre respectively, after today’s hike.
This is the ninth increase in prices since the ending of a four-and-half-month long hiatus in rate revision on 22 March.
While fuel prices in India are regulated by oil marketing companies, it has often been observed that the rates remain unchanged during elections and are hiked after the result day.
