Chennai: Miscreants who came in two-wheelers hurled petrol bombs at Kamalalayam, the BJP State headquarters at T Nagar in Chennai, at around 1 am today. After that, they evaded the police and escaped. Luckily, no one was injured in the attack

Even as the incident sent shock waves in the political circles, police have arrested one person from Nandanam in Chennai. The accused has been identified as Vinod and he is being questioned by the police.

Sources said police have formed special teams to conduct a thorough investigation. BJP leaders including State president K Annamalai and Karate Thiyagarajan have condemned the attack.

‘A petrol bomb was hurled at our office. Similar incident took place 15 years ago with DMK’s role in it. BJP cadre don’t get afraid of such things,’ Thiyagarajan, former Chennai Mayor, said.

A BJP functionary said the attack took place despite police security to Kamalayalam. ‘The entire incident has been captured in CCTV cameras,’ he added.

Police said they were looking at CCTV footages and obtained some important leads. ‘All those involved in the incident will face severe action as per law,’ they added.

The incident has come at a time when there is an intense campaign going on for the 19 February urban local body elections.

The BJP, which came out of the AIADMK alliance, is facing the polls alone and its leaders have launched a blistering attack on the ruling DMK.
Sharply reacting to it, DMK leaders including Chief Minister M K Stalin have been slamming the BJP.

In the AIADMK camp, former Minister and senior C Ve Shanmugam recently expressed happiness over snapping the ties with the national party.
