Chennai: Tamilnadu continued to report a fall in fresh cases on Wednesday when it added 3,971 new cases compared to 4519 on Tuesday. The 28 deaths took the toll tally to 37,837. By the end of the day, 16473 people were removed from the registry and the state had 77,607 active cases.
Of the 38 districts, 29 reported fewer than 100 cases each. The cases declined in both Chennai and Coimbatore as 742 and 726 persons tested positive for the infection respectively. There were 334 cases in Chengalpattu, while there 245 cases in Tiruppur and 212 in Salem.
After 1,15,898 people were tested for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, the test positivity rate (TPR) in Tamil Nadu stands at 3.9 per cent, where Tirupur recorded 8.2 per cent, Coimbatore 7.9 per cent, Krishnagiri 6.5 per cent, Salem 6.2 per cent, and Erode 6 per cent.
Barring Kallakurichi, all districts in the state reported a drop in new cases compared to their Tuesday tally.
A total of 1,09,341 persons were inoculated in the State on Wednesday. This included 42,256 persons aged 15 to 18 years and 34,974 persons aged 18 to 44 years.
The State recorded 28 deaths including 12 deaths in private hospitals and 16 deaths in government hospitals, taking the total number of deaths due to the pandemic virus in the State to 37,837.
