Chennai: With eight more persons testing positive for Covid-19 in the hugely-populated Kannagi Nagar in Chennai, the locality has been declared containment zone by health officials and movements are restricted.

As of now, the total number of affected persons in Kannagi Nagar is 31. What Dharavi is to Mumbai is Kannagi Nagar is to Chennai, so to speak, as slum dwellers from various parts of the capital city of Tamilnadu were relocated to here years ago.

With Dharavi giving sleepless nights to health managers and people of Mumbai with its increasing corona cases, Kannagi Nagar is emerging a new hotspot in Chennai.

Given the density of population here, it is feared that the pandemic might spread to more. However, Health officials said they have been taking all necessary measures to prevent the spread.
