Chennai: Circular Road near Anna Walkers’ Park at United India Colony in Kodambakkam is in a shambles, say members of the public.

“The road is maintained by the Greater Chennai Corporation and is dumped with garbage, construction debris and all rubbish. It is an eyesore. This road is facing all kinds of problems such as uncleared garbage, broken bins and parking of a row of abandoned vehicles,” says Raghunathan, a longtime resident of the area.

“We wonder when and how this road is going to be cleaned. We have given a written representation collectively but there is no response till now, that is even after a fortnight from the date of our complaint.”

Vaidehi, another resident of the locality, says that the footpath and storm water drains along the road are also damaged and pose a great problem to visitors of the park. Ironically, the park is well maintained but the foul smell emanating from the dumped garbage irks the public.

The park is visited by residents of Trustpuram, Power House, Mahalingapuram and even West Mambalam and it has a walkers’ path, yoga stage and a play area for children. Is it not the duty of the civic body to maintain the road leading to the park and clear the garbage periodically, questions Shanmugam, a social activist and a regular to this park.

When this reporter contacted the Corporation, it was informed that steps to clear the garbage daily will be taken up soon.
