There is a temperature dip for a few days. However, it comes with a cost, affecting our health, if not taken proper care. First in the list is cold, cough and fever are the most common condition in any given household.
As against the popular belief, a person does not contract cold and flu directly due to decrease in temperature but rather because of compromised immune system. Studies state that human body works overdrive once it detects the temperature fall to regulate the normal body temperature. Having said that, when a person frequents hilly regions will result in diminishing the immune level, thus, leads to cold-related illnesses.
Even as I type this, the air-conditioned workplace that I am in, the Ooty-like climate in namma Chennai early in the morning and hot afternoon has given me a sore throat. Reason? My body is subjected to extreme climatic conditions that has lowered my resistance capacity.
During temperature dip, it is essential to avoid travelling to cold regions to maintain good health. Even when you travel within your city, ensure you don’t travel crowded places to prevent yourself from acquiring air-borne conditions.
The next in the list is dry skin, also known as, eczema. If it is monsoon time, the urge to urinate is more and we consciously avoid drinking water. Yes, admit that. We are lazy. However, the lack of moisture content in body leads to dry skin and makes it flaky. In summer, as we quench our thirst quite often, it evaporates in form of sweat and provides hydration to the skin.
So it becomes pertinent to consume water even during monsoon, just don’t bother about using the loo numerous times a day. To retain the suppleness of skin, experts advice to apply moisturizer soon after bathing. Be sure to stay precautions and enjoy the cool temperature, for us, Chennaiites, summer is not too far away.
