Two held in AP for smuggling gold worth Rs 1.09 crore from Myanmar

Visakhapatnam: According to Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Gold biscuits worth Rs 1.09 crore smuggled from Myanmar was seized from two train passengers at the Visakhapatnam railway station on Wednesday.

On 4 January, acting on intelligence inputs, the DRI officers examined two passengers travelling on the Guwahati-Secunderabad Express. On examination, it was found that they were carrying gold concealed inside their vests. A total of 3,314 grams of gold was recovered from them, said a statement.

On being questioned, the duo reportedly confessed that the gold was smuggled to India from Myanmar and someone handed it over to them to be transferred to Secunderabad. The two passengers and the mastermind were arrested yesterday, the release added.
