Chennai: The Madras High Court has refused to hear a plea against the restriction it placed on distributing Rs 1,000 as Pongal gift to all ration card-holders in Tamilnadu.
AIADMK lawyer Balasubramaniam moved the court today to hear his plea against the restriction. Rejecting his plea, the court demanded to know what documents he had to support his petition.
Yesterday, passing its order on a PIL filed by a person from Coimbatore, the Madras High Court ruled that the cash gift should be given only to people living below the poverty line. But it allowed the distribution of Pongal gift hamper to everybody in the State.
The Pongal gift hamper, consisting ingredients to make sweet pongal, is being distributed to all PDS card-holders in Tamilnadu.
