The Tamil Nadu Higher Education Department has allocated Rs 7 crore to upgrade classroom facilities in state-owned colleges. This move comes as a response to the expected 20% increase in admissions to Science and Arts colleges this year, driven by high demand from students who achieved strong scores in the Class 12 board exams but were previously unable to secure spots.A senior official from the department explained that the Rs 7.05 crore will be utilized to enhance classroom environments across 48 government Arts and Science colleges. This funding will be directed towards purchasing new chairs, desks, and ceramic learning boards, aiming to provide a more conducive learning atmosphere for the growing student population.
In addition to this classroom upgrade initiative, the Tamil Nadu government has also sanctioned Rs 100 crore for expanding infrastructure in over 30 colleges. The Public Works Department (PWD) is leading these projects, with work nearing completion. The expansions are part of a broader effort to accommodate the increasing number of students, ensuring that state colleges can meet current educational demands.
Furthermore, hostel facilities are being expanded to cater to the needs of the larger student body, underscoring the government’s commitment to improving the overall educational infrastructure in Tamil Nadu. These upgrades are expected to significantly enhance the quality of education and the student experience in state colleges.
