The inspection was focused on efforts being carried out by the Greater Chennai Corporation, Water Resources Department, and Highways Department to prepare the region for the upcoming rainy season.
During his visit, Muruganandam inspected several key locations, including the construction site of an approach canal and a water tank in Ward 61, Poonamallee High Road, near the Gandhi Irwin Bridge railway track. The project, which is being executed at a cost of Rs 5.20 crore, is part of the state’s broader initiative to enhance infrastructure and mitigate flooding risks during the monsoon.
The Chief Secretary emphasized the importance of completing these works by the end of September to ensure that the city’s drainage systems and waterbodies are fully functional and capable of handling the increased water flow during the monsoon. He instructed the officials to expedite the work and adhere to the deadlines.
In addition to inspecting the drainage and waterbody projects, Muruganandam also visited the Dr. Ambedkar Government Higher Secondary School. He inquired about the school’s student enrollment and teacher strength, assessing the basic infrastructure facilities available. The Chief Secretary advised the headmaster to focus on increasing student enrollment, ensuring that more children in the area have access to quality education.
