BJP president K Annamalai has voiced strong condemnation and urged the ruling DMK party to take strict action against one of its functionaries for the brutal assault on a woman Village Administrative Officer (VAO) near Villupuram.
In a social media post, Annamalai expressed his dismay over the attack on VAO Shanthi by DMK functionary Rajiv Gandhi in Villupuram district on April 19. He highlighted that the assault occurred when the VAO refused to file a false complaint against a PMK candidate for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct during the Lok Sabha polls.
Annamalai criticized Chief Minister MK Stalin, taking a dig at his pre-election apology to the public, stating that despite his apology, there has been a lack of reprimand against party members involved in such violent acts, especially towards government officials, particularly women.
The former IPS officer emphasized the urgent need for the DMK leadership to address the issue of violence perpetrated by its members and take decisive action against those responsible. He urged Stalin to uphold the principles of justice and governance by ensuring that the DMK functionary, Rajiv Gandhi, faces consequences for his actions.
The incident underscores broader concerns regarding the safety and security of government officials, particularly women, who often face intimidation and violence while performing their duties.
As the demand for action against the DMK functionary gains momentum, all eyes are on the state government’s response to address the issue.
