As the bustling metropolis of Chennai grapples with the congestion and challenges faced by passengers at the Chennai Central and Chennai Egmore railway stations, relief appears on the horizon. R.N. Singh, the General Manager of Southern Railways (SR), recently announced plans to develop Villivakkam railway station into a terminal, aiming to decongest the crowded Chennai Central railway station. Passengers frequently encounter difficulties boarding and disembarking from trains at Chennai Central and Egmore due to the overwhelming numbers. The proposed solution involves transforming Villivakkam railway station into a terminal, providing an alternative for commuters and contributing to a smoother and more efficient rail travel experience. The Southern Railways team, led by R.N. Singh, conducted an initial survey that deemed Villivakkam railway station as a suitable location for the proposed terminal. The strategic choice of Villivakkam aims to not only alleviate congestion at Chennai Central but also enhance connectivity for passengers traveling to and from various parts of the city. RN. Singh emphasized the pressing need for a fourth railway terminal in Chennai to address the escalating challenges posed by congestion at the existing terminals. He revealed that there is available land for the development of the Villivakkam terminal, and a detailed project report is currently in the works, expected to be finalized within a month. The move to develop Villivakkam as a terminal aligns with the broader goal of enhancing Chennai’s railway infrastructure and ensuring a more streamlined experience for passengers. @@@
