In a positive turn of events for both omni bus operators and passengers, the Tamil Nadu state government has announced the temporary resumption of omni bus services from Chennai to southern districts, allowing them to operate from the Koyambedu bus terminus. This decision comes as a welcome relief for those who have been inconvenienced by the recent changes in the bus terminal arrangements. The move follows a directive from Justice RN. Manjula of the Madras High Court, who instructed the state government to engage in discussions with private bus operators on February 3 to reach a mutually agreeable solution. The matter has been scheduled for further submission on February 7, allowing stakeholders an opportunity to find common ground. The background to this development involves a petition filed by two private bus operators, YBM Travels and Vetri Travels, who raised concerns over the prohibition of private buses from operating out of the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) in Koyambedu. The legal proceedings brought this matter to the forefront, leading to a temporary resolution proposed by the state government. During the hearing of the petition, Advocate General PS. Raman assured the court that private bus operators would be granted permission to operate their services from the Koyambedu bus stand on a temporary basis. This decision aims to alleviate the challenges faced by both the operators and passengers, allowing for smoother and more convenient travel arrangements during this interim period.
