Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, who on Wednesday visited the cyclone-hit areas in Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur and interacted with the farmers whose crops were submerged in the rain waters, has promised adequate compensation.
Palaniswami visited various agricultural fields and met the farmers, who showed the damaged crops to him.
He said he has directed the district administration to assess the damages, prepare a report and sent the same to the government for necessary action.
He promised to provide adequate compensation to them and also distributed relief materials to those housed in relief camps.
He also served food to those staying in the relief camps. Earlier, he offered prayers at the world famous Velankanni Church and the Nagoor Dargah.
He also visited the pond near the Dargah which was damaged during the cyclone. Palaniswami yesterday visited Cuddalore and surrounding areas, including the temple town of Chidambaram, after a meeting with the Central team, which had visited the cyclone hit areas on Sunday and Monday.
Meanwhile, the State government has released Rs 74.24 crore for cyclone relief works. The government said these funds will be used to repair the damaged roads, houses, bridges and electric poles.
