Hyderabad: Even as the Telangana Cabinet has appointed a Group of Ministers headed by Road and Buildings Minister V Prashanth Reddy for the construction of new Secretariat and Assembly complexes, the decision has been condemned by many opposition party leaders.

TRS Supremo and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao laid the foundation stone for the construction of the new Secretariat building on 27 June. It has been reported that the new Assembly complex at Errum Manzil would house the Assembly, Council Halls and Central Halls.

Attending the All Party Round Table conference, TPCC Chief Uttam Kumar Reddy voiced his opposition regarding the issue. He said construction of the buildings was a huge waste of public money and that the existing ones were safe for utilisation.

Reddy further said the proposal to build a new Assembly complex was completely unjustified. He had served as MLA for five consecutive terms and was familiar with the Assembly premises and that the building was functioning well and its aesthetics is on par with the Parliament if not better than it.

Talking about the irrigation projects in the State, the Congress leader said he was surprised to know that KCR had reportedly met a top judicial officer to brief him on the project when the matter was being heard by the Court. He said  Dilution of roles or nexus between Executive and Judiciary was dangerous for the democracy.
