570 special buses from Chennai for new year travel rush

In view of the New Year celebrations, the Tamil Nadu Transport Department has arranged special bus services from Chennai to various destinations to manage the heavy travel demand during the holiday period.

The transport authorities have deployed a total of 570 special buses running today and tomorrow to help passengers reach their hometowns and other locations comfortably.

From Kilambakkam Bus Terminus today, 240 special buses are operating to places including Thiruvannamalai, Tiruchirappalli, Kumbakonam, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Coimbatore, Salem, Erode, and Tiruppur. Tomorrow, an additional 255 buses will be in service to the same regions.

At Koyambedu and Madhavaram, 55 buses are scheduled to run to areas such as Thiruvannamalai, Nagapattinam, Velankanni, Ooty, and Bengaluru today and tomorrow to meet passenger demand for both local and interstate travel.

Transport officials also said that further services have been planned to accommodate return journeys after the New Year. Depending on demand, 525 special buses are expected to operate on January 3, and about 765 buses will be deployed on January 4.

The step aims to ensure smooth commuting for travellers during the festive period and reduce overcrowding on regular bus services.
