Chennai government clarifies that the Nanganallur construction is the first state-run Haj House, debunking social media rumors of it being a second facility.
Chief Minister MK Stalin laid the foundation stone on December 16, 2025, for this Rs 39.20 crore project near the airport.
The five-storey building on one acre will include a basement for parking, ground floor with reception, conference hall, and secure storage. Upper floors offer 100 rooms for about 400 pilgrims to complete formalities a day before departure.
Announced in March 2025 at Rs 65 crore initially, costs were revised downward.
Social media claimed a Haj House already operates in Choolai, Chennai, making Nanganallur the second.
Tamil Nadu government stated the Choolai facility is privately run by Tamil Nadu Haj Service Society, not state-operated.
