Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has been charged under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) for allegedly making “false, misleading and derogatory statements” about state institutions. The complaint, filed by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Islamabad, asserts that Afridi’s comments, particularly concerning mosques, are provocative and harmful. The FIR records that Afridi’s remarks, captured in a video posted on the official YouTube channel of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), were made outside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, where former Prime Minister Imran Khan is incarcerated. The Cyber Crime Wing characterized Afridi’s statements as incendiary, asserting that they sought to “spread hatred, fear and unrest” among the populace. They alleged that these comments undermined the legitimacy of state institutions, and confirmed that he had been disseminating inflammatory content on social media. Notably, Afridi claimed that security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would disrespect the sanctity of mosques by bringing dogs into them and securing them there. @@@
