In the wake of the horrific sexual assault on a student in Coimbatore, former Tamil Nadu BJP state president Annamalai has strongly condemned the tendency to blame the victim, calling it deeply unacceptable.
He criticized certain political quarters for attempts to shift focus away from the perpetrators to the victim, describing such comments as a serious offense.Annamalai stated that during the DMK government’s rule, it has become a tragic pattern to divert attention from offenders by blaming victims, as seen in this Coimbatore case and previously in other high-profile cases like the Anna University student incident.
He highlighted how personal details of victims have been irresponsibly disclosed publicly under the current administration, undermining dignity and justice for survivors.
He further questioned the police’s failure to release detailed information about the accused in the Coimbatore case, implying that the ruling party might be protecting culprits through political influence.

Annamalai called on all political entities to refrain from encouraging victim blame and urged the government to strengthen law enforcement and transparency to prevent such crimes and injustice.
