The Tamil Nadu government has declared a special holiday on Tuesday, October 21, for all state government offices, schools, colleges, and public sector undertakings. The decision was taken to ensure that people across the state can celebrate the Deepavali festival, which falls on Monday, October 20, without travel-related inconveniences. This additional day off is expected to help students, teachers, and employees travel to their hometowns and spend quality time with their families during the festive period.Officials stated that the government’s move prioritizes the welfare of citizens and aims to make commuting easier around the Deepavali celebrations. Traditionally, highways and public transport systems experience heavy rush during the festival, and this special holiday is expected to reduce congestion. By aligning the break with the festive schedule, the administration hopes to provide a smoother travel experience and more time for family gatherings .To balance the working calendar, the government has also designated Saturday, October 25, as a compensatory working day for all institutions covered under this order.
