Tamil Nadu Transport Minister Sivasankar has warned private omni bus operators to lower their fares by tomorrow or face strict government action. He said that during the recent festive season, some operators raised fares excessively, especially on routes from Chennai to southern districts including Madurai, Thoothukudi, Nagercoil, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, and Kovilpatti.
The minister noted that out of more than 500 operators, around 10 had increased their tariffs and must immediately roll back the hike. He emphasized that the government will closely monitor compliance and take action if the fares are not reduced within the given time frame.
Sivasankar added that the intervention would ensure fair pricing for passengers during the Diwali period and that operators must adhere to regulations to avoid penalties.
