Customs officials at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport have arrested three people for trying to smuggle around 40 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana from Thailand. The drugs are valued at nearly ₹40 crore.The officers acted on intelligence and stopped two passengers arriving from Bangkok. They found the drugs hidden in vacuum-sealed packages. A third person, waiting to collect the shipment, was also arrested.
The suspects have been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Preliminary investigations indicate that an international drug trafficking network may be involved.
Authorities said this seizure is a major step in fighting drug smuggling at the airport. Investigations are ongoing to trace the wider network.
