Hyderabad witnessed a relentless downpour on Sunday night, triggering severe waterlogging and traffic jams across the city.
According to the Telangana Development Planning Society, Siddipet’s Narayanraopet recorded the highest rainfall of 245.5 mm between 8.30 am on September 14 and 8.00 am on September 15. Rangareddy’s Abdullapurmet-Thatianaram logged 128 mm, while Hyderabad’s Musheerabad area saw between 114.5 mm and 124 mm at different monitoring points.
The sudden cloudburst left arterial roads submerged, slowing traffic despite the efforts of traffic police and municipal teams. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Mayor Vijayalaxmi Gadwal said she was “personally overseeing the situation at the command control centre” in Banjara Hills, where pumps and diversion teams were deployed to drain rainwater and reroute vehicles.
