Moscow, Sept 5:  Russian President Vladimir Putin has criticised US President Donald Trump for using what he called “colonial-era pressure tactics” on big economies like India and China.

Speaking to the media during China’s victory parade, Putin said these countries have their own political systems and laws. With their large populations and histories of colonial struggles, they will not accept threats, he added.

“When someone says they will punish you, leaders of such big nations will react strongly,” Putin said. He explained that any weakness could end a leader’s career, which shapes their response.

“The colonial era is over. They cannot use this kind of language with partners,” Putin stressed. He also questioned Trump’s understanding of how these countries and their leaders think.

Trump recently imposed 50 percent tariffs on India, punishing it for buying Russian oil.
