The Greater Chennai Corporation has introduced new rules for pet dog owners, set to take effect from next month.
According to the notification, all pet dogs must be fitted with a microchip for identification. Owners who fail to comply will face a fine of ₹3,000.
The rules also make it compulsory for dogs to wear a muzzle while being taken outdoors. The Corporation said the measures are intended to regulate dog ownership and bring down the number of dog-bite incidents in the city.
Officials added that awareness drives will be held to inform residents about the new rules and the penalties for violations.
