A Special Court for trial of cases against elected representatives has asked the police to execute a warrant on senior DMK leader and Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan in connection with a disproportionate assets case filed by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC).

The disproportionate case was filed in 2002 (during AIADMK’s tenure) against  Duraimurugan and his family members – his wife D. Santhakumari, brother Durai Singaram, son D.M. Kathir Anand (now a Member of Parliament representing Vellore constituency in the Lok Sabha) and daughter-in-law K. Sangeetha.

The DVAC had charged Mr. Duraimurugan of amassing disproportionate assets to the tune of ₹3.92 crore during 1996-2001 when he was the Minister of Public Works. The case was filed under the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Vellore, in 2007 discharged them from the case. Subsequently, the DVAC filed a batch of five criminal revision petitions against the discharge in Madras High Court in 2013.
